Today was a trip up to the Tablelands above Cairns. Beautiful mountains (well hills, but the tallest in Queensland which doesn't really say much) with rain forests, waterfalls and fig trees.
Also one of my favorite things about taking small bus tours is sitting up front and talking to the bus driver. Always a good chance to talk to an actual Aussie, and they have great stories and are very happy to keep talking, and by the end of the day they are very genuine and heart-to-heart. Hear about where else they have worked. Hear about their opinions on Aussie politics and the world. Their travels. Today's' bus driver was great. Talked for a long time about Aussie policies about the environment and then he used to ski and run and raft at a very high level and knows a lot of athletes and had very interesting stories about doping in various sports. Hard to hear but love interesting people.
Last night in Cairns, and then two more in Sydney and then home. Can't believe this trip is almost over. I've gotten so used to the trip and spending time traveling and just.. the drill. Independence and doing whatever I want to do. Getting back to real life? Boo. At least I've got another almost two months before work starts where more adventures can happen. But then life is one giant adventure roller coaster ride. =)
I swam under that waterfall. Beautiful, especially sitting behind it and watching the water fall. But extremely cold. Reminds you that it is actually winter in Australia....
